Overall Event Goal:

Answering TTP Foundation's International TTP Day brings local TTP communities together on a global scale to raise funds to support research, education, and support. Participants use their custom fundraising page to collect funds for their event. Registrants either walk or fundraise another way to be part of this international movement bringing small communities together to be part of something big!

This event was previously called the Walk to Answer TTP Together. Participating by walking (as in previous years) is still a great way to take part.

Lauren's Story

Lauren Chapman Ruiz was 20 years old, a junior in college, living in California, when she was diagnosed in 2008 after two days of tests in hospital. Ten years later, in her 37th week of pregnancy, she delivered her second child, held her in her arms and introduced her to her 3-year old big sister, before her heart stopped.
Lauren’s doctor had encouraged her not to be afraid of having kids as he had seen other TTP patients deliver children with no problems. It is a stark reminder of the fragility of all TTP patients. How quickly the tide can turn, and how desperately we need better treatments and a cure.
Lauren knew this and chose her positive and helpful attitude. She shared her story, and become an active volunteer with the Foundation. Besides lending her design skills to turn educational materials from drab to dynamic, Lauren provided one-on-one peer support to other patients and valuable patient feedback to develop educational resources. She will always be in our hearts. We miss you Lauren.
My message to other patients is that despite TTP, life can still go on and be a joy. TTP has continued to harden my determination to work hard to hold onto health, sunshine, and a good life.” ---- Lauren

This is Your Opportunity to Enable TTP Research

such as...

Profiling of T cells in patients with acquired TTP

"The overall goal of the current study is to obtain more insight into events that trigger the development of auto antibodies in previously healthy individuals. We also would like to study what causes relapses in patients with acquired TTP."

--- Prof. Dr. J. Voorberg, Department of Plasma Proteins, Sanquin Research and University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands

What is TTP?

A TTP, Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, diagnosis is scary and complex. Many patients have never heard of this 3 letter acronym before, nor have they any idea as to its ramifications. TTP is a medical emergency causing small blood clots and potentially fatal complications. Early diagnosis is key to survival. TTP can strike anyone, at any stage of life. Three in one million people are diagnosed each year. Symptoms include: fatigue, fever, diarrhea, chest pain, bleeding, dark urine, confusion, headaches, visual changes, bruising, purpura, petechiae.

The TTP Community is a small and geographically dispersed population. International TTP Day is designed to enable everyone to help improve the prognosis for all TTP patients. In previous years this event was organized as a walk. This year we are trying something new to ensure everyone feels that they can participate. You can walk any distance, for 2 hours anywhere in the world, OR *NEW OPTION*, you can fundraise another way. This is your opportunity to be the change. Challenge yourself, organize an event or sell something. Everyone can contribute. Click here now!

Please download the participant instructions and read carefully. Also, check out the Tips and Tricks document to help you plan your best walk ever! Share the walk poster electronically or print and hand out to help raise awareness.
